Really Tell Me Where to Go

Okay, this post with a poll really exists on the blog.

These are my current top choices for places to visit in September on my way from Romania to Wales. Tell me what you think. The price of an airline or train ticket may trump your opinions, but I'd love your recommendations and maybe if you give me good advice, I'll bring you back a present.

I voted for Prague and Ireland. I think I would choose Prague--just because I've heard so many great things about it and because a city is easier to get a good feel of than a country if you are limited on time and that is important to me.

I voted for Prague and Barcelona. Prague is pretty and interesting. Also, they aren't on the Euro so you should be able to do things cheaply there.

I've never been to Barcelona...

Budapest is really high on places I would like to go, but if you go to Prague I would think you could skip Budapest. Here is my logic: I think they may be very similar in a touristy way, not deeeeep down. So if you want a range of things I would suggest going to one Eastern or Central European city and then a different place geographically/culturally.

I've been to Prague twice and Budapest once. Definitely worth a good tour of both! But I do agree with James on getting as much culture out of your trip. So maybe pick one and go somewhere completely different for the other.

I'm so jealous!

Excel here. I vote for Montenegro and Ireland. Prague's nice too, but it's touristy. Budapest is okay. I've never been to Montenegro, but Sveti Stefan and Budva are supposed to be great. I have heard that Podgorica isn't too nice though. Things will be pricey in Montenegro...they use the Euro and there are lots of Russians and Brits in the tourist areas. Montenegro is supposed to be safe, although it's kind of a pain to get there. If you're interested in the Balkans, Slovenia I have heard is nice. Dubrovnik, Croatia is great, but overrun by tourists.

My dad loves Prague--that's what I voted for, because I want to go there!

The Barcelona airport is the most beautiful airport I've ever been to (even though I couldn't leave the international travelers holding area). That's why I voted for it.

I voted for Prague and Ireland too! I've always wanted to go to Ireland, and probably will. I almost went to Prague once but our plans changed. I've heard great things about both! good luck.

I had a great time in Budapest for a day on study abroad. Montenegro is where Nero Wolfe is from. Enough said.

Prague has always been on my list of places to see, so I'm happy for all the validation of that choice.

Excel--Croatia used to be on my short list, but then I was apprehensive about traveling there by myself. I've been looking at pictures of Dubrovnik, though, and it might be back toward the top of the list. And I hadn't even considered Slovenia. Must investigate.

CSIowa--I've never read any of the Nero Wolfe mysteries, but now that I know about his Montenegro connection, I'll have to check some out.

All people that I've met from Croatia are very attractive. I voted for Prague & Ireland. I've always heard great things about Prague. I've been to Ireland. It's a beautiful country with fabulous accents. Just be wary of skinny dippers near Joyce tower.

I was in love with Italy. Though Stresa is a better choice than Verona. And avoid Venice if you can. Pretty to an extent, but all that Pigeon Poo and backed up sewage at high tide? Ick.

Moo--If I go to Ireland, I'll be sure to be on nudity alert.

Heidi--I will be in Venice for a couple of days earlier in my trip, also Rome and Florence. I'll have to look into Stresa.

So Jon & I were wondering, are you really quitting your job? You sure are a lucky duck-wish we could go with you! Keep us posted via the blog.

Yep, I'm really quitting my job and going to Europe for 4 months!
