1. They charge 40p to place a hold. I like to always have about 40 items in my hold list at any one time, which would add up under the library's oppressive system. I do not choose to pay for the hold service, so my life is not really as complete as it should be. There's a big 40-item-hold-list whole in it.
2. I am only allowed to check out 10 books at a time. This is not enough.
3. They own the first two books in the Izzy Spellman mysteries (by Lisa Lutz) but not the last two books. Izzy Spellman books are the only thing I want to read at the moment. I read the entire second book yesterday, which required ignoring both my husband and his parents all evening but which also gave Steve free time to make his own sweetened condensed milk in the pressure canner, which is maybe a hobby I should be nipping in the bud.
4. They are not hiring. If they were, they could hire me and I would rectify the Izzy Spellman situation and be made queen of the library.

Not only did I make my own sweetened condensed milk, I then turned that milk in to "dulce de leche" sauce and ate it over ice cream.
This is what happens when I'm unsupervised. I *was* thinking about making a lettuce sandwich with a cup of water, but...
I wish you could get the Spellman Files on CD. The narrator is phenomenal.
Charge you to put books on hold?! I'd say that's unconstitutional, but maybe that's a moot point where you are. Wow. The way library's try to get money. Then again, mine won't even charge late fees. Do you have DVDs or music CDs? We don't have those, and it is a shame and a half.
Steve--We don't have any lettuce.
Rebekah--Now you're making me cry too.
ldsjaneite--We do have DVDs and CDs, although I haven't investigated them much because the DVDs cost!
I am relieved to know there are people more things on hold than me... right now I have 27.
Enough with your library... it is not a library... it is a book rental shop. The library is enough of reason to NEVER live in Scotland.
I want a pressure cooker just so I can assuage my desires for dulce de leche all the time. It's a very good thing we do not have one. I can't run that far.
