The Car is Not My Friend

I got a traffic ticket Saturday. I know! I'm shocked, too. In the many years I've been driving I've NEVER had a ticket for anything. I haven't deserved one, what with being such a cautious, courteous, vocally self-righteous driver. Apparently, I ran a stop sign. The thing is, though, that I'm not sure I did. I mean, I didn't see a stop sign and think, "Hmm, no, I don't think I'll stop at this one." I just can't remember what happened, though. I chose not to share that information with the officer writing up my ticket. It seemed like admitting that I couldn't remember what I'd done 30 seconds previously would be just as alarming to the Law as running a stop sign. Did I really run a stop sign, Officer? How peculiar. I don't recall that at all. Nope, the last 2 minutes are a complete blank. So I have to call the court and find out what I have to do. And then I have to find an AC/DC shirt at D.I. and figure out how to spike my hair up into a mohawk. If I'm going to traffic school, I'm goin' in style.

p.s. Read Kabul Beauty School

Do you have to go to traffic school because you committed such an egregious crime, or does it get you out of paying the fine or something?

I've never gotten a ticket but I certainly deserve one. A speeding ticket, that is. I've driven to Minnesota twice and Utah once this summer, and I kept thinking the whole time that my karma was probably UP.

Maybe you experienced lost time! (The X-Files theme plays in the background.)

I got my first ticket this year too. A speeding ticket in Nevada on the way to Utah. It happened during the 2 seconds when I had taken off my cruise control and wasn't paying attention to my speed any more. Grrrr.

Oh, no! I am sorry MBC! Remember when we were in San Diego and I got pulled over twice in 2 days?? Oh boy... that was pretty funny.

Kabul Beauty School, huh? I've only had a few tickets. One of which I did tell the officer "sorry I wasn't paying attention." SK didn't like that I told him that...but it didn't have any impact on the ticket, etc. NJ is ripe with ticket opportunities.

I cannot wait for the new look. Maybe after you go to traffic school you can come and give a motivational speech to my students. They listen much better to people with mohawks!

It actually makes me feel much better to hear about other people getting tickets. Makes me feel like less of a criminal.

Annie--I DO remember that. I thought about it while I was getting my ticket! "Actually the 'Road Closed' sign means that the ROAD IS CLOSED."

Amy--I'm not sure about the whole traffic school thing. The officer referred to it as if it were a big favor to offer it to me. We'll see.

Traffic school keeps the ticket from going onto your insurance. The charge is dismissed if you PAY and attend the completely arbitrary class. Citys actually make more money from traffic school that is why they try and sell it. But it does keep the moving violation off of your record. As Brittany says, "Daddy doesen't get tickets, he says COP.... it's magic."

I am actually reading Kabul Beauty School as we speak! (Well, not actually right this moment, but I have been reading it until I was interrupted by the Anne Tyler book that is currently changing my life.)

Anyway, I'm fascinated by her marriage to Sam. It looks like it's working for her, but I hope your fantasy sheep dog man speaks English.

Yes, Kabul Beauty School is sooo interesting.

Emily--Do not worry. Jaran speaks lovely English. I heard him talking to one of the judges. I'm not sure if his dog speaks English, though.
