Different but Delicious

Last night I attended the Utah Festival Opera's production of Manon Lescaut. It seems I have the same interests as 70-year-old women. You've never seen so much white hair, so many floral skirts, or so many orthopedic shoes in your life.

Before the opera, we ate at Le Nonne and I had a dish I have never seen anywhere before. I haven't even encountered this recipe in my cookbook reading. It's pennette alla pera, which is penne with a gorgonzola cheese sauce and PEARS. So good! It makes sense--pears and gorgonzola are a great combination. I would never have considered combining them with pasta, though. Must learn how to re-create at home.

My sister doesn't like the opera either. This may be due (largely) to the fact that she started off her opera education in Ashland, Kentucky. They're not really known for their fine arts.

I'm not actually a huge opera fan myself. I prefer theater or dance. Speaking of which, how do you feel about Alvin Ailey? 'Cause I may have to see them in NYC.

I recently saw all 4 shows at UFO, and 1776 was the standout...but I tend to prefer musicals to operas.

Shut up, you were HERE last night having Le Nonne meals? I realize that I was actually out of town last night and everything, but still. So jealous.

I'm glad you liked Le Nonne! I've seen that dish but haven't tasted it.

hah--I've heard really good things about 1776, but I doubt I'll get to see it this year.

Nemesis--We thought of you while we were at Le Nonne but assumed that the Almost Married tend to be a little busy mere weeks before their weddings.
